Salvage – a new range of 100% recycled products

Continental Clothing Co. has taken another leap forward in its commitment to sustainable development by launching a new, breakthrough range of products made from 100% recycled materials.

The products carry the distinct SALVAGE symbol to help communicate their recycled credentials to the consumer at the point of sale, with a dedicated website telling the story with high quality original images and simple text narrative.

SALVAGE is being launched initially as a capsule collection of basic T-shirts, sweatshirts and tote bags, in a street-inspired palette of mélange colourways. In line with Continental Clothing’s existing offering, the new plain products are primarily aimed at the garment decorating, merchandising and corporate branding sectors but will also sell into fashion retail. Wholesale prices start from £2.65 (€3.15) for T-shirts, £7.95 (€9.95) for raglan sweatshirts and £1.95 (€2.45) for tote sling bags. All products are available from stock.

The fabrics are produced in India from 60% recycled organic cotton and 40% recycled polyester. The cotton comes from Continental Clothing’s own organic production, where the cotton waste is saved (“salvaged”) and shredded until broken into individual fibres. These are then blended with locally recycled polyester and spun into yarn. The knitting, dying and manufacturing are carried out in Continental Clothing’s established facilities in Tamil Nadu, renowned for high ethical labour standards and low environmental impact.

The SALVAGE products are certified under the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) and the Organic Content Standard (OCS), and carry the appropriate certification marks, licensed by the Control Union Certifications.

SALVAGE hangtags are attached to the garments and bags to bring into focus the recycled concept. QR codes printed on the hangtags and the inside labels will take the consumer to the dedicated website http://www.salvagefashion.com to visualise the production processes and re-enforce the concept. The website does not relate to the manufacturer thus ensuring the integrity of the retail branding. The website is compatible with desktop and mobile devices.

A spokesman for the Company said:

“Of course, we are tremendously proud of this new range. These are, to my knowledge, the first commercially produced T-shirts and sweatshirts in recycled cotton.”

“The look and feel of the garments, as well as the concept behind them, will resonate with the street fashion trends.”

“This range is a response to the growing demand among the youth market audience for sustainable, cleaner products. I think it’s all part of the youth’s revolt against the established, dirty and wasteful world they see around them.”
